Drugs in Golf

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Not so long ago I wrote an article about the accusations made regarding drugs in modern golf. The guys over at Golf Punk have released the following video on the latest developments.

2008 Masters

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

Without wanting to tempt fate too much all seems to be going well for the British golfers at the masters with Westwood, Casey and Poulter going strong.

And who else but the flamboyant Poulter to nail this quality hole in one to bring him right back in it!

Unlucky Number Eight

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

They say all good things must come to an end… but I didn’t see it coming this week! Geoff Ogilvy won the WGC-CA Championship by one shot to end Tiger’s bid for an eight successive win since the Deutsche Bank Championship last September.

It was a mixed bag by Tiger’s high standards, I didn’t think he putted as well as he has been of late with four three putts, something which is somewhat out of character from the Tiger who holed a 24ft putt to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational just two weeks ago.

That being said though it was inevitably going to happen and I guess we will have to wait until next months US Masters to see how he bounces back.

WGC-CA Championship Update

Friday, March 21st, 2008

With all eyes on Tiger converting his 8th straight win at the WGC-CA Championship I was starting to wonder if my 64/1 bet on Justin Rose is a complete waste of money? Well maybe not, Rose is currently only 5 shots off the pace to Geoff Ogilvy and Tiger has been a bit off the ball with a somewhat mixed round by his very high standards.

Tiger is only two shots off the leader but after a mixed round which included two bogeys in what is less than ideal conditions could this be the breaking point to his unbeaten season!?

Cast vs Forged irons

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Ive been looking at some new clubs the last few weeks and am currently swaying between the Nike CCI’s and the Titleist 755’s. I have been coming across the terms ‘Forged’ and ‘Cast’ and until I actually looked into it I didn’t know the difference and what that difference would mean to the actual golf club.

I eventually found a review on about.com, which basically summarises as follows;

Cast irons are made from molten metal and put into a cast to form the eventual club head shape

Forged irons are compressed from a single piece of metal without the melting process.

The difference then… well apparently nothing but that doesn’t seem to explain to me why forged irons seem so much more expensive than the cast irons!?

Sick of airline excess carry charges?

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

The guys over at Airport Parking & Hotels Ltd have been doing some very interesting research into the excessive costs some of the UK airlines are charging us for the privilege of taking our golf clubs abroad.

This is something which I incur every year but have never really been bothered to actually shop around for the best deals.

Looking over their findings there is a real mixed bag of results, most interesting of those coming back are that prices are ranging from nil up to £50 whereas some airlines see fit to allow golf clubs to be carried as part of your standard allowance and some stipulate a maximum number of clubs, balls and shoes.

A summary of their findings broken down to each airline and their policies can be found here.

Lucky Lucky Tiger

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

Tiger Woods nearly lost his unbeaten record for 2008 as Australian Aaron Baddeley could of and should of knocked Tiger out of the WCG Match Play Championship.

Baddeley after a run of eight birdies in nine holes had a putt to win the match on the 18th and 19th hole but couldn’t finish off the world’s number 1. Tiger however showed his worth as he held a 10ft putt on the 20th hole to end the Australian’s dreams of progressing to the quarterfinals.

There was much disappointment for Europe as both Monty and Paul Casey were knocked out after loosing to Stewart Cink and K J Choi respectively. All eyes are now turned to defending champion Henrik Stenson to carry the flag.

Lets just hope the excitement continues after an amazing game of golf in the third round yesterday with the Woods vs Baddeley match proving to be one of the most exciting and interesting games for some time!
