Wondering how you go about getting your hands on some 2010 Ryder Cup Tickets? Well I was and the Ryder Cup website had this information;

“Details of the ticket ballot and application process will be posted on The Ryder Cup and European Tour websites when the details are finalised.”

“Tickets to the 2010 Ryder Cup will be available through a random lottery draw. Registration for the ballot is scheduled to start from March or April 2009 with the ballot closing in August 2009. The procedure for entering the draw will be well advertised on both europeantour.com and rydercup.com, as well as other media channels and will be done over a period of several weeks to allow everyone a fair chance of securing tickets. There is no pre-registration process at this time.”

So if your keen like I am then keep an eye open on the Ryder Cup and European Tour websites, as the 2010 Ryder Cup is going to be a classic and definitely not one to be missed!!

These comments come after McIlroy was leading play at the Dubai Desert Classic after an incredible round of 64 leaving him 8 under par after day one.

With all the hype surrounding the Ryder Cup just starting to build lets hope Rory can continue this fine form and start pushing for a place in the 2010 line up at the Celtic Manor.

The credit crunch has finally caught up with British golf after it was announced that the English Open golf championship has been postponed for at least two years after developers at the host Cornish course ran into financial difficulties.

After a 14 year absence the event was set to return to the European Tour in 2009 at St Mellion near Plymouth in Devon. The club’s owners have blamed the credit crunch for their impact on cash flows and ultimately the inevitable delay.

An estimated 40,000 spectators were expected, with millions watching it on television. However with the new two year target Crown Golf have backed their commitment to The European Tour to host The English Open from 2011.

Who doesn’t love Crazy Golf? I was intrigued then when a company called Putterfingers announced today the release of their revolutionary new portable Crazy Golf (mini-golf) course.

With mini-golf already a huge sport on both the European and American continents, putterfingers.co.uk are now making it available to everyone in the UK, anywhere, both indoors and out.

The idea id that Crazy Golf can be introduced as an ideal complimentary product to industries such as Bouncy Castle companies to name but one. The courses can be broken down and transported very easily by a single operative and with numerous styles of obstacles and corporate branding opportunities available, there has already been a great deal of interest shown in the new courses.

Specialising in portable courses, putterfingers.co.uk believe the course will be very popular with Bouncy Castle companies, schools, event management companies and exhibition staging organisations. The full 9-hole course can be laid out in about half an hour by a single operator and can be broken down in less than 20 minutes. With the opportunity to charge upwards of £3.50 per person per round, the income generating opportunities for existing event hire companies are easily recognised.

For more information check out the PutterFingers website here

Am I the only one who is getting frustrated with the freezing temperatures and the golf courses either being closed or playing on concrete like greens? Well after a little research it soon became clear why the courses are closed and the true extent the frost really has on the course…..

‘Frost is basically frozen dew that has crystallized on the grass, making it hard and brittle. A grass blade is actually 90 percent water, therefore it also freezes. Because of the short mowing height (sometimes as low as 1/8 inch) and fragile nature of the turf, putting greens are most affected by frost. Walking on frost-covered greens causes the plant to break and cell walls to rupture, thereby losing its ability to function normally. When the membrane is broken, much like an egg, it cannot be put back together.’

’Golfers who ignore frost delays will not see immediate damage. The proof generally comes 48-72 hours later as the plant leaves turn brown and die. The result is a thinning of the putting surface and a weakening of the plant. The greens in turn become more susceptible to disease and weeds. While it may not appear to be much of an issue if a foursome begins play early on frost covered greens, consider the number of footprints that may occur on any given hole by one person is approximately 60. Multiply that by 18 holes with an average of 200 rounds per day and the result is 216,000 footprints on greens in a day or 6,480,000 in a month.’

For more information visit the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Website here

Can playing too much golf really be bad for you?! Doctors are now warning that golfers are at risk from loosing their hearing with the new generation of thin-faced titanium drivers. Experts are also going as far as saying that ear plugs should be used to protect yourself from such dangers!!

This interesting/crazy revelation appears to have come off the back of the new King Cobra LD titanium driver after it caused a 55 year old to suffer permanent hearing loss and investigations are ‘on-going’. However preliminary tests have already revealed the worst offender as being the Ping G10 producing over 130 decibels at impact!

Not so sure this investigation will be taken seriously by most golfers but none the less, might be worth considering…… or not, I suspect!!

Padraig Harrington has been announced as the European Tour’s Golfer of the Year for the second year running and has moved to publicise his desire to pick up a major at the next US Masters, and that he will be making changes to his game in readiness for an assault on title in April.

A win in April, will mean Harrington would be only the US Open away from emulating Tiger Woods’ feat in 2001 of holding all four major titles at the same time.

Harrington, whose five wood to 4ft for an eagle on the penultimate hole at Royal Birkdale last week also landed him the Tour’s Shot of the Year award, and rose to third in the world with his astonishing double.

His closest rival for the European Tour award was Robert Karlsson, who became the first Swede to win the Order of Merit and then combined with Henrik Stenson to win the World Cup.
