The courses were beautifully maintained and truely something else to look at, the photos do not do them justice but you can get the idea!

Without doubt the new Nick Faldo course ‘The Cornelia’ was the highlight of the holiday. This was the first time I had played this course and it was tough to say the least.

The ‘up and coming’ golf town of Belek is ideal for holidaying or even for property investments. The area is on the rise and with several new courses in progress from the likes of Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie the location in my opinion will soon be recognised on the European scene with the likes of the Algarve.

European Golf Design working alongside Colin Montgomery are working on a new 27-hole complex in the Belek region of Turkey, located on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. This project will be set to become the third course from European Golf Design, accompanying The Sultan and The Pasha Course.

Set within 104 hectares of pine forest the characteristic of this course has developed from the naturally sandy and undulating ground. As well as the course itself, a nine hole short course is due to be constructed along with practice facilities including a driving range and putting green. Next to the course will be a 600 room Hotel as well as 30 luxury villas.

Construction began in July 2006 and the course is due to open for play in late 2007.

For more info see the European Golf Design website

This is the Cornelia ‘championship standard’ Golf Course and Resort in Belek, Turkey. Yet another creation from an emergence of Nick Faldo golf courses across Europe.

The demand in this emerging new golf resort of Belek means new courses are constantly on the increase and Faldo Design’s addition will certainly help to add an air of distinction to the area. As well as Faldo’s 27-hole course, the Cornelia Golf Resort will also feature its own 300 tier bedroom-hotel.

The course has been located on the naturally sandy, pine-clad site and has leant itself well to a very exciting design. There is a ridge that runs like a spine through the middle of the site, allowing for three to four metres of elevation change a which feature has been incorporated into all three of the nine-hole layouts. Faldo himself has been central to the design of the Cornelia Course, ensuring a touch of his own ‘finesse’ over the layout and on the strategic elements to the design.

With as many as ten current European projects underway, Faldo Designs are hoping that the completed Cornelia course will be recognised as one of the finest in South Eastern Europe.

Turkey, already recognised as the emerging golf resort of Europe, what with several established ‘championship quality’ courses and its stunning scenery will certainly be looking forward to the benefits of such a pioneering and exciting design from Faldo, who’s approach to course design is fast gaining him a reputation as one of the most sought-after player-designers in the industry.

For a closer look check out Faldo’s hole-by-hole walk-thru by visiting the Cornelia Golf Resort website and enjoy the gallery of truly spectacular scenery Turkey has to offer.
