The London Golf Club usually hosts the London Senior masters but this is the first time the course has been selected for the main tour. The Last thirteen championships have been held at Ireland’s K Club which also hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup.

Without doubt the new Nick Faldo course ‘The Cornelia’ was the highlight of the holiday. This was the first time I had played this course and it was tough to say the least.

The Cornelia:

The three-day US Open starts on 14th June at the Oakmont course, the first time the open has been back here since Ernie Els won it in 1994.

The ‘up and coming’ golf town of Belek is ideal for holidaying or even for property investments. The area is on the rise and with several new courses in progress from the likes of Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie the location in my opinion will soon be recognised on the European scene with the likes of the Algarve.

Located in Watford, Chigwell and Addlestone Topgolf is a world first and having already been a success in the UK is now set for international expansion.

The game works by microchips inside the golf balls which are registered to your unique id. There are several different games, ranging from snooker, chipping, target practice and general play. The chip in the ball enables the computer at each bay to generate feedback on both accuracy and distance.

The course and clubhouse has only just been constructed and has not officially been opened yet! The first piece of action this course will see is set for June this year but there is plenty of time before the 2010 Ryder Cup begins. Next years Ryder Cup is being held at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.

Among the current 100 invitations issued are 17 Europeans hoping to take full advantage of the expected windy and temperamental weather forecasted.

Prior to the 2007 Masters is the WGC-CA event in Florida, which many will be following to see if Tiger can bounce back to form ahead of this prestigious event.

The demand in this emerging new golf resort of Belek means new courses are constantly on the increase and Faldo Design’s addition will certainly help to add an air of distinction to the area. As well as Faldo’s 27-hole course, the Cornelia Golf Resort will also feature its own 300 tier bedroom-hotel.

The course has been located on the naturally sandy, pine-clad site and has leant itself well to a very exciting design. There is a ridge that runs like a spine through the middle of the site, allowing for three to four metres of elevation change a which feature has been incorporated into all three of the nine-hole layouts. Faldo himself has been central to the design of the Cornelia Course, ensuring a touch of his own ‘finesse’ over the layout and on the strategic elements to the design.

With as many as ten current European projects underway, Faldo Designs are hoping that the completed Cornelia course will be recognised as one of the finest in South Eastern Europe.

Turkey, already recognised as the emerging golf resort of Europe, what with several established ‘championship quality’ courses and its stunning scenery will certainly be looking forward to the benefits of such a pioneering and exciting design from Faldo, who’s approach to course design is fast gaining him a reputation as one of the most sought-after player-designers in the industry.
