Callaway Big Bertha 2006 Irons

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

These are the latest Big Bertha irons from Callaway. Designed for usability and reliability with the weighting predominantly on the heel and sole of the club to provide greater forgiveness and distance on off centre shorts. The cheapest I have found is for £399.99 from Click Golf.

From day one when I compared these clubs to the RAC, RAC o/s and Nike Slingshot irons I have never been in doubt that these clubs are amazing! The weighted heel provides an effortless swing through the ball producing good distance and velocity on the ball. I bought these irons playing off a 22 handicap and within a year am down to 14. The oversized heads not only make striking the ball easier but also gives you confidence in your stance.

However as I am now finding my game improving and the off centre shots reducing I am finding the Big Bertha irons generating a lot of height where I feel another set of irons with less toe and heel weight may replace this height with distance. The irons are also much heavier than some others which I have come to look at. At first I loved this about them, providing great confidence especially standing over the ball with a low iron. But as time has gone on I am starting to feel these clubs have taken me as far as they ever will, and perhaps its could be time for a new set to get me to the next stage of my game!

All in all this is a fantastic club for a player who needs the confidence and reliability in their swing and I would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone with a mid to high handicap.
