Following a comment left from our post on the Taylor Made R7 CGB I felt obliged to take one of Ping’s new G10 Drivers to the range.
And although I am not a massive fan of Ping clubs I was much surprised (as I was by the Ping G5!!) that this is actually a very good club. Although it didn’t give the same excitement as I felt with the r7, the ping feels more reliable, has a softer feel and probably gave better consistency than the r7, but the r7 was so long and powerful.
The G10 I felt was very similar to the G5 with a slightly larger face and deeper crown, this has resulted in a higher MOI that combined with the 460cc head makes it a great club. I think if you were a fan of the G5 or G2 then this is going to be a popular choice, but I don’t think this driver compares the Titleist 907’s and the r7 CGB.
At only £170 from GolfDealers.co.uk it is over £100 cheaper than the r7, which is quite amazing!

I was lucky enough this weekend to demo a set of these Burner XD Irons and what a fantastic set of clubs they are, not only do they look amazing but they are so consistent and surprisingly forgiving on the occasional miss shot, or two!! The best thing about these irons though is the noise they make when you really connect, I don’t know what TaylorMade have done differently with these irons but they just explode with a delightful ping.
The technology which has gone into these irons also makes for an impressive read, the irons are oversized which offers extra stability with a large offset and a medium sole width which results in a medium to high launch, making the irons easy to hit and provides some extra forgiveness. To generate faster, hotter shot speed TaylorMade has applied its SuperFast technology with a thin and flexible titanium face with inverted cone technology.
The only trouble is they are a little pricey at £550 but I think you can be reassured you are definitely getting what you pay for, these irons are probably the best I have hit in a long time! Suppose I had better get saving.

Online Golf is having a massive sale and one of the best finds i’ve come across is the Taylor Made V Steel II Fairway Wood. The club has had many great reviews on the website from golfers of varied handicaps and with 75% off the rrp is a sure bargain at just £29.99.
The name derives from a V shaped sole which has been designed to give stability when addressing the ball, making aiming easier and once you are swinging reduces turf resistance giving what should result in greater consistency and more reliability.
The V Steel comes with a lightweight graphite shaft giving Taylor Made’s fairway wood a mid-torque and greater head pull, offering an optimal combination of distance, control and loft benefiting golfers of every ability.

These Taylor Made HT Irons are a quality set of clubs and at only £170 I thought they are well worth a mention.
Before I had my Big Berthas I did look at the RAC o/s and l/t irons and they were very good clubs and their oversize heads were very forgiving. The HT irons also have a large clubface that has been combined with a wide sole and low centre of gravity, which is supposed to make it easier to launch the golf ball off the clubface and provide a more consistent flight and trajectory.
These irons are never going to be a choice of a single handicap golfer, but for the beginner or intermediate player who is looking for trajectory and forgiveness the RACs are fantastic clubs and a bargain at only £170. Although if you have a little more money to splash then definitely check out the RAC II’s.

The new r7 draw irons have been released, and with Taylor Made’s Draw-Weighted Technology behind them have been designed to incorporate the natural draw we’re all after!
By maximising the degree of offset and positioning the leading edge of the clubface behind the front of the hosel this will allow an extra fraction of a second to square off the club face and results in what should be a natural draw.
By introducing their draw-weighted technology to these irons Taylor Made has removed significant weight from the toe and repositioned it in the heel resulting in a movement of the centre of gravity closer to the shaft, also resulting in a deeper toe-based cavity design. The benefits of the deeper cavity will allow for easy launch off the clubface both in terms of height and distance. The r7 draw irons not only have a large cavity but also the sole is wide and cambered, designed to prevent digging and instead glides smoothly through the surface.
The r7 draw with its oversized clubface and cavity will provide greater consistency and reliability, especially on the off centre and miss-hit shots. Similar in technology and feel to the Callaway Big Bertha irons, Taylor Made have taken the next step from their RAC oversized irons and introduced their Draw-Weighted Technology to an iron. The Draw-Weighted Technology has been a massive success on the r7 drivers and hopefully these irons will continue in that success.

This is the Ping G5, a club and brand which has never been top of my list for drivers and irons. However having just played 18 holes with this club I could well be converted!
The G5 comprises a 460cc titanium Ping head with a new internal weighting distribution that re-positions the center of gravity for lower spin rates and higher MOI. The G5 is following in the footsteps in the massively successful G2 and whilst still similar in shape to the G2, the confidence-inspiring G5 head provides greater forgiveness and extra distance.
The re-distribution of the weight on the G5 to the back of the club is very confidence inspiring and rather reassuring as you wind up your back swing. The re-designed Ping head has allowed a redistribution in 8 grams of weight from the crown of the driver and placed it lower and further back to generate a higher launch and to reduce ball spin. The larger head on the G5 compared to the G2 also gives more confidence on the tee and what with a higher sweet spot you just need to tee it high and let it fly!
There are also plans for an offset version of the G5 which seems to be a market trend what with clubs such as the R7 Draw proving very popular clubs. The G5 Offset driver will utilize a quarter inch of offset to help those golfers who struggle to produce a draw, or just to help beat that slice!!
Overall this was a very impressive club, and one which I was not expecting to like! The club was very long and straight, and playing a very tight course there certainly is still more to come from this club! I will definitely be taking a demo G5 to the range and may even be looking to trade in the SasQuach, I was that impressed. Find other golf clubs in the Ping G5 range on Clickgolf’s website.

The new White Hot putter is again building on the success of the White Hot insert technology which combines a soft, resilient elastomer core with a thin, firm cover of urethane to deliver what is describes as exceptional feel and feedback.
The new technology on the #7 White Hot putter boasts a higher MOI from shifting the weight to the perimeter of the putter head allowing greater forgiveness and truer roll. The putter has also introduced a textured impact zone enhancing the sweetspot and have re-weighted the alignment wings resulting in the higher MOI.
The mallet style head does not appeal to every golfer and I am certainly one of those but the new White Hot has received some good reviews and the new technology introduced has been a hit with one or two people I have tried it with!

The SeeMore putters system is an exactly what it does on the tin job; the idea is that you “see more” when lining up your putt. The putter provides a visual aid telling you if you are opening or closing the face of the putter by the use of a red dot, which immediately warns you if you are out of alignment.
The SeeMore putting system has become an established solution both to professional and amateur players alike. Not surprising then that this kind of technology made this the most played putter at the 2006 Ryder cup and was used by Zach Johnson in winning the 2007 Masters in Augusta.
The Black Stealth Blade features an aluminium and bronze finish providing a stylish look and with proven results seems a bargain at only £99.99.
