Puma Tour Saddle 2008

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

puma-saddle.bmpI think you could be forgiven for thinking I’m working for Puma these days the amount of posts I seem to be writing about their new range of 2008 shoes… but I picked up a pair of these Tour Saddle shoes over the weekend and just had to write something about them. Once again they are a fantastic looking shoe and they feel just as great on, I know they are not very traditional looking but with summer hopefully fast approaching I love to get trainer style shoes on with a pair of shorts.

Another reason these shoes stood out is that the Champ Scorpion Spikes come with ‘street caps’ that actually replace the spikes and instantly turn them into trainers! Cant wait to get these beauties on the course, now all we need is some sunshine!

Unlucky Number Eight

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

They say all good things must come to an end… but I didn’t see it coming this week! Geoff Ogilvy won the WGC-CA Championship by one shot to end Tiger’s bid for an eight successive win since the Deutsche Bank Championship last September.

It was a mixed bag by Tiger’s high standards, I didn’t think he putted as well as he has been of late with four three putts, something which is somewhat out of character from the Tiger who holed a 24ft putt to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational just two weeks ago.

That being said though it was inevitably going to happen and I guess we will have to wait until next months US Masters to see how he bounces back.

WGC-CA Championship Update

Friday, March 21st, 2008

With all eyes on Tiger converting his 8th straight win at the WGC-CA Championship I was starting to wonder if my 64/1 bet on Justin Rose is a complete waste of money? Well maybe not, Rose is currently only 5 shots off the pace to Geoff Ogilvy and Tiger has been a bit off the ball with a somewhat mixed round by his very high standards.

Tiger is only two shots off the leader but after a mixed round which included two bogeys in what is less than ideal conditions could this be the breaking point to his unbeaten season!?

Nike Sasquatch Sumo Square 5900 Driver

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

sumo5900.jpgI am a big fan of the original Squared Sumo driver and I was obviously excited about the new Sumo 5900. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was expecting big things from this club and the sleek new look certainly was pleasing on the eye. I’m not sure if I am a little disappointed though when I say it isn’t actually that much better than the one I already have.

I’m sure the max’d out MOI at 5900 technically has made some improvements on those off centre shots and the new powerbow weighting which has been designed to offer greater head stability and accuracy will be more reassuring, but for me it wasn’t enough to make a visible difference to my drive. Maybe I need a bit of time with it to really see the benefits of this club, after all I’m sure it hasn’t added 600 MOI to the original Sumo for no good reason.

But even with all this new technology if I had the choice of picking the old Sumo up for £100 or the new one for £230 I still think I’d go for the original.

Never in doubt!

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Most would say it couldn’t happen, but with Tiger Woods I think were starting to realise anything can happen. I mean check out this 24 foot putt to clinch victory at the last hole of the Arnold Palmer invitational.

Unbelievable!

New Puma Swing GTX golf shoes

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Swing GTXIt has to be said I am fast becoming a fan of the latest range of Puma golf shoes which have been released in 2008. These are the new Swing GTX shoes which not unlike the Puma Leere shoes have drawn their inspiration for a traditional 50’s design with some modern colours and style.

The new Swing GTX have been built with Puma’s new Smart Quill technology which means each quill has been moudler and positioned to give the ultimate traction whilst swinging the golf club.

These shoes once again look great and the green line on this example looks really stylish and tasteful. These shoes are a little more expensive than the equally beautiful Leere shoes at £130 but their great looks and Puma’s claim that these are ‘the’ best performance golf shoe on the market means they could be worth the few extra pounds!

The DiXX Putter

Friday, March 14th, 2008

DiXX PutterGot a spare £400 and looking for the ultimate putting aid!? Forget putting pirrors this DiXX Putter is fully computerised and comes jam packed with some of the latest technology. The idea is that the built in computers will indentify everything your doing from impact position, swing path, face angle, tempo and head speed until you can truely hit that perfect putt.

The DiXX putter has a fully integrated display which is conveniently designed to give instant feedback and can be analysed over a range of putts to identify those common mistakes.

Not suprisingly tho this invention is not USGA or R&A approved so is limited to the putting greens im afraid!

Taylor Made R5 Dual Ti Fairway Wood

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

R5Looking for a forgiving – easy to hit fairway wood then this R5 Dual Ti could well be your club. The engineering by TaylorMade on the launch control in these clubs becomes really apparant when you have the ball on the deck. They are so easy to get the ball into the air and the ‘V’ design really helps to cut through the turf and get thr ball airborne, which is probably why this is such a successful club as fairway woods are notoriously more difficult than an iron to achieve the right ball trajectory from the fairway.

Similar in technology then to the V Steel fairway woods but this R5 wood contains the dual cartridge system which has been an enormous success for TaylorMade allowing you to ‘tweek’ the loft and height by increasing the moment of inertia and deepen the centre of gravity. This increases club head stability for a smooth swing across a variety of lies producing a strong and straight ball flight.

Most impressively at the moment tho is the price, originally retailling at £300 they are now selling them at Online Golf for only £50.
