TaylorMade RAC HT Irons

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

TaylorMade RAC HT IronsThese Taylor Made HT Irons are a quality set of clubs and at only £170 I thought they are well worth a mention.

Before I had my Big Berthas I did look at the RAC o/s and l/t irons and they were very good clubs and their oversize heads were very forgiving. The HT irons also have a large clubface that has been combined with a wide sole and low centre of gravity, which is supposed to make it easier to launch the golf ball off the clubface and provide a more consistent flight and trajectory.

These irons are never going to be a choice of a single handicap golfer, but for the beginner or intermediate player who is looking for trajectory and forgiveness the RACs are fantastic clubs and a bargain at only £170. Although if you have a little more money to splash then definitely check out the RAC II’s.

Tiger triumphs in USPGA

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Tiger storms to victory at USPGA, holding his lead in 100F heat to pick up his 13th Major. At only 31 Tiger has Jack Nicklaus’s record of 18 majors in sight having added his 13th on Sunday.

Tiger has attributed this triumph to his physical condition, his dedication to his physical fitness meant he was feeling as fresh walking down the 18th as he did teeing off on the 1st. Where other golfers were tiring and looking sluggish in the soaring heat Tiger reflected on the hours he puts into the gym and all the miles he runs to stay in shape.

A remarkable performance from the world’s number one and this will surely be a massive relief after all the questions about his commitment and form since the birth of his daughter Sam Alexis.

Tiger eyeing USPGA to break his Major duck

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Tiger Woods is eying up Thursdays USPGA Championship to break this years Major duck for the World’s number one. Although Tiger has bagged himself 4 trophies already this year none of them have been majors. Tiger picked up his fourth victory on Sunday at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Tiger has been a mixed bag this year in my opinion, he came close at the US Masters in Augusta but never really looked like closing the deal before Zach Johnson stepped up and took the trophy. Again at Carnoustie he was wayward with his irons and was probably lucky to post the scores he did on a coupe of the days, however coming off the back of a win at the WGC after an emphatic come back maybe it is finally Tigers time!

Personally if anyone’s going to break their Major duck im backing Sergio as he is definitely overdue one!

Swing Speed Radar

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Swing Speed RadarEver wondered how fast your swing is? I know I certainly have and im sure many other golfers out there do too. The pros have long recognized the value of monitoring their swing speed and golf ball speed, which they use to determine the type of clubs they use and the suitability of different shafts.

Swing speed is not dependant on how hard your swinging but the speed at impact which your club face is travelling through the back of the golf ball. This is the true measure of how solid you are really hitting the ball.

The Pro’s are constantly tweaking their equipment; in particular their shafts are optimized to suit their swings. And now if you have a spare £70 you can finally use your swing speed to custom fit your next set of irons or driver!

Tempotimer

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

TempotimerAnother training aid endorsed by Ernie Els, this is the Tempotimer a weighted aid designed to strap onto any iron or driver and is designed to develop your swing plane and club speed. The strategic placement of weight is used to get the club down into the hitting area on the right plane and corrects the dreaded over the top action which most of us have had at one time or another.

The Tempotimer is basing itself on the similar technology used in the Momentus Swing Trainer with extra weight forcing the downswing along the correct plane; however the Tempotimer can be applied to individual clubs.
