Black Golf Balls

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Black Golf BallsBlack Golf Balls! Well what can I say, although they may well be impractical they do look pretty cool, plus they are 100% legal having been R&A and USGA approved. The black ball with its two-piece construction and a black heat-retentive surlyn cover is designed to make the ball more visible in the air and faster than traditional white balls.

The interesting fact of this ball is the ‘science’ behind it, if u can call this science! – The black ball absorbs the heat from the sun’s rays, therefore in flight will reduce the density of the surrounding air and thus give it a more aerodynamic flight, producing greater distances. Of course this ‘technology’ is restricted to summers days but nonetheless is an interesting concept.

European Tour- K Club

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

The K Club have announced they’re allowing free entry to spectators on the opening day of this year European Tour when it begins on 5th July. Competing after his triumph in Oakmont is US Open Champion Angel Cabrera, having seen off Woods and Furyk by one only one shot only a few weeks ago.

Cabrera has managed six top ten finished in his last 11 appearances in Ireland’s K Club and after a solid performance in Oakmont will no doubt be looking to swoop the £2.4mil prize fund on offer.

Ping G5

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Ping G5This is the Ping G5, a club and brand which has never been top of my list for drivers and irons. However having just played 18 holes with this club I could well be converted!

The G5 comprises a 460cc titanium Ping head with a new internal weighting distribution that re-positions the center of gravity for lower spin rates and higher MOI. The G5 is following in the footsteps in the massively successful G2 and whilst still similar in shape to the G2, the confidence-inspiring G5 head provides greater forgiveness and extra distance.

The re-distribution of the weight on the G5 to the back of the club is very confidence inspiring and rather reassuring as you wind up your back swing. The re-designed Ping head has allowed a redistribution in 8 grams of weight from the crown of the driver and placed it lower and further back to generate a higher launch and to reduce ball spin. The larger head on the G5 compared to the G2 also gives more confidence on the tee and what with a higher sweet spot you just need to tee it high and let it fly!

There are also plans for an offset version of the G5 which seems to be a market trend what with clubs such as the R7 Draw proving very popular clubs. The G5 Offset driver will utilize a quarter inch of offset to help those golfers who struggle to produce a draw, or just to help beat that slice!!

Overall this was a very impressive club, and one which I was not expecting to like! The club was very long and straight, and playing a very tight course there certainly is still more to come from this club! I will definitely be taking a demo G5 to the range and may even be looking to trade in the SasQuach, I was that impressed. Find other golf clubs in the Ping G5 range on Clickgolf’s website.

Tiger welcomes birth of baby daughter

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Tiger Woods and his wife have become parents after Elin gave birth to a baby girl, introduced as Sam Alexis Woods. Tiger who originally had been prepared to miss the Open as Carnoustie from 19th – 22nd July now looks set to be among those taking part.

The birth took place only 24 hours after Tiger came runner up to Angel Cabrera in the US Open. The big question now will surely be how his game and schedules will be affected with their new arrival. Tiger is next due to play at the Buick open in Michigan on 28th June. Personally I am keeping my fingers crossed he will make it to Carnoustie so we can see the best players play what is possibly one of the toughest courses in golf today.

Odyssey White Hot XG #7 Putter

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Odyssey White Hot XG #7 PutterThe new White Hot putter is again building on the success of the White Hot insert technology which combines a soft, resilient elastomer core with a thin, firm cover of urethane to deliver what is describes as exceptional feel and feedback.

The new technology on the #7 White Hot putter boasts a higher MOI from shifting the weight to the perimeter of the putter head allowing greater forgiveness and truer roll. The putter has also introduced a textured impact zone enhancing the sweetspot and have re-weighted the alignment wings resulting in the higher MOI.

The mallet style head does not appeal to every golfer and I am certainly one of those but the new White Hot has received some good reviews and the new technology introduced has been a hit with one or two people I have tried it with!

Ernie Els Golf Swing Ball Trainer

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Ernie Els Golf Swing Ball TrainerYet another swing trainer product, this one endorsed by Ernie Els. The ball is designed to develop core strength and stability through the trunk and torso. The swing ball trainer is aimed at developing movement from the core body to move the club head rather than reliance on the wrists and therefore keeping the club on a consistent plane.

The ball is aimed at every golfer of any ability, the results from only a few minutes a day is the training of golf specific muscles which in turn will condition the physical body for optimal golf performance.

A little expensive perhaps for what it is at £50 but with similar products such as the Leadbetter Swing Trainer at around £60 if it gets the results then it could be money well spent!

JD -My wife tried to stab me!

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

American John Daly called the police at 0600 hours local time in Memphis on Friday after alleged claims his wife attacked and tried to stab him with a steak knife.

Daly issued statement on Friday claiming that he had been a ‘victim of an assault by his wife’, however when the police arrived at JD’s house his wife and kids were gone, and the knife his wife used to attacked him was also no where to be seen.

Daly and his wife were seen arguing late Thursday night at a restaurant close to the golf course where he was competing at the St Jude Championship in Memphis. For the time being the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the allegations and JD had no further comments while the investigation is pending.
